Submission Guidelines

1. Submission. Three copies of the manuscript should be submitted to: "The European Journal of International Affairs", Piazza S. Maria in Trastevere, 9 - Rome I-00183 - Italy. No responsibility is taken for damages or loss of papers submitted (Papers will not normally be returned unless this is specially requested). Copyright for published papers will be vested in the publisher. Submissions will initially be screened at the editorial office, prior to reviewing, and authors will be informed if a paper appears unsuitable for publication in the Journal. After initial screening, authors will be informed as to which of editors will be overseeing the reviewing process for their paper. This editor will communicate an editorial decision in due course.

2. Manuscript. The manuscript should be typed with a double-spacing throughout on one side of the A4 paper only, with a 4cm left-hand margin. It should be submitted in English. The text and references should be checked thoroughly for errors before submission. It is the responsibility of the author to ensure that the typescript is correct in style, syntax and spelling (Shorter Oxford English Dictionary). Table and figures should be numbered consecutively and placed on separate sheets, with an indication in the text as to their appropriate placement. In order to expedite publication, authors of accepted manuscripts are invited to submit the final version of their paper on disk as well as on hard copy. The preferred format is Microsoft Word for Windows. The author is responsible for ensuring that the final hard copy and diskette versions of the manuscript are identical.

3. Title Page. The first page of the manuscript should come with the following information:
a) full title of paper, date;
b) author's full name, affiliation, full postal address, telephone and fax numbers, e-mail address; the corresponding author who will be responsible for correspondence and correcting of proofs has to be evidenced;
c) abstract (100-150 words): the abstract should not contain any formulae or references;
d) the manuscript should be subdivided into sections and subsections as necessary. A biography (50-100 words) of each author containing: studies background, professional occupation, research interests and recent publications, should be sent on separate sheets.

4. Illustrations
. Illustrations should not be inserted in the pages of the manuscript but supplied separately with the typescript. Line drawings should be drawn clearly in Indian ink on tracing paper and at about double the intended size. Lettering should be stencilled either in Indian ink or Letraset, again large enough for any necessary reduction; typewritten annotations are not acceptable. The captions should be typed on a separate page at the end of the manuscript and not included in the text or under the illustrations.

5.
Tables. Tables should be numbered and headed with short titles. They should be typed on separate sheets at the end of the manuscript. Tables should not repeat data that are available elsewhere in the paper, e.g. in a line drawing. Mathematical symbols may be hand-written or type-written. Creek letters and unusual symbols should be avoided if pos-sible. Simple notation is encouraged. Only essential mathematical formulas should be dis-played in the text. Derivations should be put in an appendix.

6. References in the Text. References cited in the text should read as Brown (1975) or Brown and Smith (1975, 1980). Use "et al." when citing a work by more than two authors, e.g. Brown et al. (1981). The letters a, b, c, etc should be used to distinguish citations of different works by the same author in the same year, e.g. Brown (1975a, b). When citing a new edition of a previously published work, include both dates, e.g. Durkheim (1912/1976), in text and references. If author's name is not in the text, insert last name, comma and year, e.g. (Van Dijk, 1998). Enclose within a single pair of parentheses a se-ries of references, separated by semicolons, e.g. (Black and Williams, 1986; Downey and Jones, 1985; Perry, 1977). Use also parentheses to insert any brief phrase associated with the reference, e.g. (but see Jones, 1990, pp.123-4). For an institutional authorship, supply the minimum citation from the beginning of the complete reference, e.g. (US Bureau of the Census, 1994, p.36).

7. Endnotes. These should be numbered consecutively and placed on the last page.

8. Proofs. Proofs will be sent to the "corresponding" author for correction. These must be corrected and returned within three weeks otherwise publication may be delayed. Alterations to proofs other than corrections of printer's errors may be charged to the authors.

9. Offprints. One copy of the relevant issue of "The European Journal of International Affairs" will be supplied free of charge to each author of published papers. Offprint may be ordered, and details will be supplied to authors of accepted manuscripts.

10. Copyright. The Copyright Agreement form will be sent to the authors of submitted papers prior to refereeing and therefore has to be signed and returned to us before we can process your manuscript. It is the author's responsibility to obtain written permission to reproduce copyright material. Quotations should be kept to a minimum. In the rare case of a quotation exceeding 250 words, the author must obtain written permission from the publisher/author.
